Tuesdays with Dorie: Raisin Cream Scones

July 12, 2011

Despite the fact that my inner masochist put raisins in these scones, I can honestly say that I loved them. Normally raisins make me think of the small, snack-sized boxes that my parents used to stick into my school lunches (while everyone else got to wonderful things such as Ho Ho's or candy.) Raisins also conjure up hideous default-plaid catholic school uniforms, and numerous encounters with my nemesis, math. Well, I'm slowly starting to finally appreciate raisins for what they are: Grapes, whose lives somehow took a turn for the worse and ended up shriveled hard versions of their former selves. Having said that, the seemingly aged wisdom of the raisins worked in this recipe. Without them, the scones would have been a bit on the bland side, and dry. Instead they were bursting with random bites of perky tartness. So maybe, just maybe, raisins will soon become a welcome guest in my cramped kitchen cupboard...that is if the coconut would stop giving them the 'you're-too-healthy-to-be-in-here', look.

This week's Tuesdays with Dorie recipe was hosted by Lynn, of the lovely blog Café Lynnylu. Thank you Lynn! The scones were refreshingly easy to make during what has been a very hot and humid week. I didn't even need to haul out the stand-mixer (something I'd normally never consider a bad thing to haul out.) For Lynn's blog and the recipe, please click here. And please don't forget to check out the other TWD bakers.

  3. I've become a fan of making scones this year, and yours look absolutely gorgeous. My kids don't like raisins either, so anytime I make something I don't want to share, I add raisins!

  11. These look so delicious. With a little bit of refinement on the presentation, this could be served in a 5 star restaurant.
