Tuesdays with Dorie: Chewy, Chunky Blondies

July 27, 2010

Sometimes a cookie just isn't enough, you need to sink your teeth into something more substantial. Enter the classic blondie. They are basically pudgy, pimped out cookies. If you happened to be having a particularly bad day and don't want to nosh on something pretentiously thin, yet you don't want to go completely dark side by strolling down the brownie path, blondies are the perfect alternative. They're baby bear's porridge, the perfect medium. Of course in times of desperation, you can merge the unholy trinity, cookie+brownie+blondie bar. But that force of nature should be set aside for apocalyptic conditions, flat tires, frizzy hair, and no-longer-zippable skinny jeans (though the latter may be due to the topic of discussion.)

This weeks simple, irresistible Tuesdays with Dorie recipe was chosen by Nicole, of Cookies on Friday. Thank you, Nicole! You ended this month on an easy, blithe note. These blondies are thick, chewy, rich, and have the perfect amount of crunchy, nutty texture. But proceed with caution and try not to take one while they're still basking in warmth from the oven...if that happens, you may discover that one is simply not enough. No amount of running or Pilates will make up for that sin, but while you're indulging in it, you won't even care. :)

  2. Wow, your brownies look delish! Just perfect. They ARE dangerous while they still have that oven warmth - and so good with ice cream! :-)

  4. What a great description of these blondies. My daughter brought me a belt she found in the closet the other day. It was from high school...2 kids and many blondies later there it didn't even go around my waist....sad.

  6. SO true so true. These are deceptively dangerous. That chewiness really becomes addictive! Beautiful photos - you really captured their "evil" goodness!

  7. Eating them warm, eating them cold -- makes no difference. One is never enough.

  14. Yeah say goodbye to the skinny jeans after eating a few of these! Had to give half of them away to a friend just to get them out of the house.

  17. These are so delicious. I made them with chocolate chips, butterscotch chips and coconut. I was wishing I had toffee bits instead, but I liked this variation so much I'll definitely try it again!
