Tuesdays with Dorie: Blueberry Peach Crumble
August 16, 2011
This was supposed to be a Tropical Crumble. It should have been overflowing with fruits and spices that would have you absently humming a Jimmy Buffett song. Exotic and 'yes, please, another umbrella drink'- ingredients, such as mango's, fresh ginger and bananas. I didn't have any of the above, save for the song "Lone Palm" floating through my head all day.
Luckily I did have access to several luscious white peaches and fresh blueberries! If they were capable of speaking poetically, I think blueberries would confess that they have a crush on peaches. Peaches are kind of like the cool BF's of cherries, blueberries twice-removed cousins. Needless to say, there was a lot of love in this humble crumble. The sweetness of the peaches played nicely with the more assertive blueberries. And even though my crumble was not as 'crumbly' as I would have liked (maybe because I was out of pecans?), it was still a great companion to the fruit. On a sweltering summer day, this is an easy dessert to whip up when your sweet tooth needs a quick fix.

ReplyDeleteMmmm, peaches and blueberries are a devine summery combination. And I love your topping! Thanks for baking along with me this week.
ReplyDeletePerfectly beautiful! A superb combination of fruits!
ReplyDeleteYour crumble topping looks great! Mine sort of melted away. I used mango and pineapple, which was a good combination. I like the peach/blueberry combination, too.
ReplyDeleteohh...that came out sort of looking like a cobbler. probably better than the original, especially with the summer fruits!
ReplyDeletereally lovely plating!
ReplyDeleteLooks so delicious. The perfect little summer dessert!
ReplyDeleteI want your recipe please! Not interested in tropical fruits.
ReplyDeleteHi Akgardne,
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting! :)
In place of the bananas and mango's, I used 3 large peaches (skinned), and about 1/2 cup of blueberries. Also, I skipped the sautéing and the nuts. Other than that, it's the the recipe Gaye has on her site (in the link.)
I hope this helps! You can probably use just about any fruit. I think strawberries or raspberries would be delicious. :-)
That crumble looks incredible with the summer fruit. In fact, I think I need to rewind with some good peaches!
ReplyDeleteWith all that fruit, it's definitely my kind of dessert!
